Haiti Help

Last week our members donated $2,423.63 in door offerings that have been sent to Lutheran World Relief. The donation was made through Thrivent’s website so that the amount sent to LWR was $3,635.44. We’d like to thank everyone for their generous donations.

As you know a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, January 12. The quake struck 10 miles from the capital city of Port-au-Prince and has left the city in ruins.

As rescue and assessment teams work to reach people in need, a clearer picture of the situation in Haiti is emerging. Latest estimates put the death toll at 200,000 and rising with more than a million people in need of shelter and emergency assistance.

Immediate needs are water, food, and shelter. Cash gifts are the most effective way to quickly provide these much needed services to the people of Haiti.

If you still wish to make a donation, please make checks out to “Trinity Lutheran Church” and put Haiti in the memo so that we can process the funds more quickly and receive the Thrivent match.

Check out this article about relief efforts in Haiti. If you would like to be part of a team going to Haiti in February, contact Pastor Jennings and he will contect you with Dr. Joel Holcombe mentioned in this article (Joel was PJ’s first roommate in college).
